Graphic Designer | Katy Jordan

Katy knew when she was in secondary school that she wanted to do something creative, so she went on to further education to study Visual Communication & Graphic Design.

Unfortunately, the creative industries is a very difficult sector to gain access to, and even when you gain access, being successful is another feat all on its' own.

While she stuck in at her day job in retail, she did everything she could to create work for herself when job applications continued to show no result and, finally, she found her way back to graphic design successfully. Once again, it was through the medium of film.

As most small businesses usually do, her 'client base' started very locally to her, with organisations such as the local church asking for event posters, until a tourist attraction approached her for her services.

'Colour Coded' Series Book Covers

The Black Bullet Cover Cover design for my novel which the publishing company kindly allowed me to do. Design sized to their instructed measurements. All imagery drawn by me.	The Silver Sparrow Cover Once again, the publisher allowed me to design my own cover for my second book in the series of novels. Imagery was traced from a photograph I took at an airshow in Cumbernauld many years prior to cover design.

'Boundless' Web Series Advertisement

'Boundless' Title This is the title for the series. It appears on every poster and in every episode online.	'Boundless' Poster 1 This was the online poster for the series, meaning it is a lot smaller in size and was never printed. Photography was taken by me on Isle of Skye three years prior to the poster design.
'Boundless' Poster 2 This was the generic poster. It was printed as well as used online and is the one our audience mainly associates with Boundless. The photography was taken by me at Inversnaid two years prior to poster design.	'Boundless' Box Packaging Discussions were made on whether to release the series on DVD as no television brands would take it for a price. Edging is all measured out to the exact size so that cutting can occur immediately after print.
'Boundless' Potential Poster This was a prototype poster for if the series were to be released on DVD.

Bburn Buttercup Logo Bannockburn Buttercup Cafe is a small cafe for the elderly and disabled along with their carers. This was the logo I designed for them based on their requirements - the buttercup was plucked from a field, scanned into the computer and traced before I added some finishing touches.	Buttercup Cafe Poster For their grand opening, they wanted something bold and inviting, and so I designed them this which was welcomed with excitement. The photograph was one I took in the Trossachs National Park four years prior to poster design.
Armistice Poster Allan Church, Bannockburn held a wonderful and educating day to mark the centurion anniversary of Remembrance. They approached me for a fitting poster that they could put up around the village and this was the finished result I sent them.	Pot Luck Supper Poster The Allan Church, Bannockburn returned to my email inbox with a request for an event poster. It was required to have a Spring theme as it was the first event of the season and to stand out from a distance... this did the trick!
Bburn CC Logo Although they had been in service for many years, Bannockburn Community Council didn't have a logo to their name, and asked me to come up with something for letterheads etc. Using the Bannockburn colours for the shield, I placed the arm of a warrior at the forefront built from different components to reflect that Bannockburn is at its' greatest when they all come together.	LOGO FINAL The first use of their logo was the local fun day to commemorate the Battle of Bannockburn, 1314. Each word has a different reference to Bannockburn within it (all photography by me) with Summer colours for the background to emphasise the good weather expected to be had - as well as the warm welcome to any and all outsiders!
Bannockburn House Xmas Seeing my local contributions, Bannockburn House Trust approached me for an event poster. They were having a predominantly Victorian theme, so I gave them an elegant poster to suit. The bow and holly was done by me... it took a LONG time!

'Creative Talent Connections' Booklet

CTC Front-Back Creative Talent Connections is a Glasgow based networking organisation where anyone in Scottish film can meet potential collaborators and/or mentors. The founder asked me to make a booklet using the already designed logo and supplied testimonies. This was the front/back page.	P1-T1 Inside front and back cover. The founder asked for a questionnaire at the back that the user could tear away and hand in while still leaving with all of the information.
P2-P5 Outer design of inner page. It was requested, due to financial objectives at their end, that the design and printing costs be as inexpensive as possible, so the booklet was bound via staples.	P3-P4 Inside design of inner page. The founder required the booklet to be of A5 in size, so I designed it on A4 accordingly so that it merely needed folded and stapled for binding, which the printer themselves supplied as a service.
